Project details

The new Pavilion Building and Teaching and Learning Block have been described by Nottingham and Trent University as ‘The heart of the Clifton Campus’. The Pavilion Building boasts two floors of social study space, enclosed learning ‘pods’, collaborative booths, coffee shop and break-out areas, while the Teaching Block incorporates 3 Lecture Theatres, 8 Teaching Rooms and 2 Conference Rooms.

The design brief was to create an exciting, vibrant atmosphere in which students could study, collaborate and be inspired while providing a visual centerpiece to the Pavilion Building and flexibility of use to the Teaching and learning Block.

It was decided that Planlicht Pure2 aluminum extrusion, housing the latest Tridonic LED technology would be used throughout due to its elegant design, quality of finish and flexibility. The extrusion incorporates DALI control throughout, encompassing daylight linking and emergency lighting reporting systems, ensuring that lighting requirements were met to the fullest degree and making the most of the pavilions abundant natural daylight.

In the pavilion Building the extrusion is mounted in line with the ceiling arches, not just working with the buildings architecture but actually becoming a part of it. This theme is continued along the length of the link walkway to the Teaching and Learning Block; an 85m line of light seamlessly connecting the two spaces.

The external spaces are illuminated using Italian exterior lighting specialists Ares range of post top lanterns, bollards, projectors and inground uplights, creating a safe, welcoming environment for all.
